Don't Mess With Texas
Jun. 23rd, 2010 10:00 pmGuys. What's up with ya'll down in the motherland? How are those delightful new textbooks working out? You taking the time to mentor kids in some real science and history? Good.
I know that most of the time Texans don't bother voting, because it's a given that the Republican candidates/ballot measures/whatever will win (on a state level; individual cities/counties are totally different).
For the love of God, get out there and vote. Because this is what you're up against, and knowing Texas, a lot of it has a good chance of passing.
Yes, this is real, not some overblown, ham-handed parody.
You know that despite the presence of some awesome, diverse, open-minded, clear-headed people, that most of the time, when the whole state is considered, the most radically conservative wins out. Sheer strength in numbers. and to anybody but the most radical Religious Right wingnuts, most of this proposal is ludicrous. It's a slap in the face to the Texan ideals of individuality and freedom. I don't know when those rugged ideals became tainted by intolerance, bigotry, and ignorance, but it's a damn shame.
It's time to reclaim that "don't give a fuck what you think" attitude for the greater good. Talk to people. Get the word out. Stand your ground. Fight the ignorance. I know some people made their minds up, and they don't want to be confused by the facts, but PLEASE try to reach the fence-sitters if any of these issues go to ballot.
There's no better time to take back the state.
And while we're at it, same goes for Arizona. Both of my home states are political failures lately.
