"Get to know you" meme

Stole this meme from half my friends' list, no joke. It's to allow your intraweb friends to know a little bit more about you IRL. Considering I just made a bunch of new friends at Fanime, this is good timing.

1. Name: Lauren
2. Age: 20. I'll be 21 in October
3. Location: Tempe, Arizona during the school year; Scottsdale, Arizona otherwise. They're nextdoor suburbs of the Phoenix Valley
4. Occupation: I'm an apprentice biomedical research scientist working on a cancer vaccine. I wear a lab coat at work. If you've played Trauma Center and know Victor, I do his job, just not nearly as high a status as he has. I'm still an undergrad.
5. Partner: My cat, Ziggy Stardust. And my right hand
6. Kids: Nope. Not yet. Who knows about the future. Shocks most people that I think kids are a blast, though they're exhausting brats. I'm an awesome influence on them.
7. Siblings: Younger sister, Rachel, aged 18 and on her way to college. She's my polar opposite right down to appearance. She looks like a photo negative of me--she's blonde, tan, and has blue eyes. She's also fabulously popular.
8. Pets: Three cats: Whitey, Bastet (Bassy), and my polydactyl spaz attack of a kitten Ziggy Stardust. I love them all to death. Whitey and Bassy are the elder cats at roughly age 14; they LOVE attention and sleep. Ziggy is just over a year old and is hell on wheels, but a blast. My sister's friend was going to take him to the pound when he was found as a baby, so my sister stuck him in her purse and brought him home.
9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:
10. Where and for what did you go to school for?
I'm two years into my BS in Biochemistry at Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University (in-state scholarship for the epic win). I'm minoring in Japanese because I'm a Weeaboo like that. As much biotech stuff as Arizona is doing right now (this isn't sarcasm; it really is exciting), I'd like to go to California for graduate school, Berkeley or UCLA or UCSD or something. Change of pace and scenery. Yeah, I'm going for the PhD. Yes, I admit I have a narcissistic desire to be called "doctor".
11. Parents:
I get along with both of them very well. My dad and I don't see eye-to-eye on several issues, and most of them have to do with my liberal/artistic bent toward race/gender/pretty much everything. My mom is amazing and endlessly understanding of my weirdass stuff, even when she doesn't understand/agree with it.
12. Who are your closest friends:
That's hard right now. The few people I feel emotionally 'closest' to tend not to live here, either ever or during the school year. I have quite a few friends who I care for and who care for me deeply, but I'm thinking the closest of the close here.
13. Do you drink/smoke?:
I rarely drink, though I dislike alcohol, so I respond best to girly mixed drinks. I'm almost always driving, and Arizona has insane DUI laws (if I get pulled over for ANYTHING and blow above a 0.0 under 21, I lose my license and go to jail), so I seldom feel that I CAN drink. We don't keep alcohol in my house as a family practice. I smoke hookah once every six months or so, but I can't stand cigarettes/weed/any other stuff. I've had one puff of a cigarette in high school, and that was more than enough. Besides, CANCER STICK whut. I've worked with diseased lungs. Yeah, smoking is one of my bitchy soapboxes, but it comes with the territory.
14. Tattoos/Piercings:
None. I'm terrified of needles (which begs the question of why I experiment on my own lymphocytes, and that is an awesome question), and I'm too indecisive to settle on one tattoo design, though I have entertained the idea as a hypothetical. I wear earcuffs many people mistake for cartilage piercings.

Date: 2008-06-20 04:24 am (UTC)-Get a hold of me if you end up at Berkeley. I'm going to be there starting Spring semester.
-The doctor thing... lol I award you major points for the TC reference. You've played the game, are you sure you want someone calling you doctor all the time? ;x

Date: 2008-06-20 07:10 am (UTC)I'd rather just stand around and say "You're doing it wrong" constantly. And I do swear a lot when things screw up.

Date: 2008-06-20 04:07 am (UTC)Except that once you're out in the science community nobody ever calls you that, and your peers will think you arrogant if you insist on being called "doctor".
You can always stare affectionately at the diploma though....

Date: 2008-06-21 07:15 am (UTC)In the foreseeable future? Hell no. I don't even have my own half-cubicle/bench space like some of the other undergrads.
