Translation: New Gyakuten Saiban, NOT GAME.

NOT GAME.

NOT. GAME.

AND IT WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE ORCHESTRA CONCERT ON SEPTEMBER 23.

Oh sweet Jesus I hope this is an anime adaptation. And I hope it's an adaptation of the original trilogy; if it's an Apollo Justice-only anime, I will fucking kick somebody's ass, I'm not even kidding.

If there is one case I want to see an OVA of, it is Turnabout Goodbyes (1-4).

Yeah, I know. Back to work.

I must be the only person who is staring at a possible anime adaptation of GyakuSai and going, "DO NOT WANT." D:

I want an anime adaptation done RIGHT.

If it's a bad anime adaptation, I'll just kick somebody's ass. Or if it's just Apollo Justice god damn. But yeah, I'm of course wary of how much Wrong could happen here.

I wonder how the Devil May Cry anime adaptation went.

I think part of the fun of Phoenix Wright would really be lost in an animated medium. What makes Phoenix Wright so much fun is it's so over the top, and you're playing it, figuring out what's really happened. It's the fact that the entire experience is interactive, right down to you screaming "OBJECTION!" into your DS that makes PW a downright brilliant game. Being a passive observer of a Phoenix Wright storyline? Not so much my thing, I guess. :/ If you're just watching, then PW is just reduced to a comic load of cheese, in my opinion.

Well, the characters could be integrated into cases that fit into the style of Detective Conan or Law and Order or CSI. You couldn't have the same ratio of investigation to courtroom sequences, for example. I think the story COULD be done where it's exciting to watch as a passive observer--but yes, taking the game script verbatim would not do that.

And I think some of the absurdity of the game could be integrated well--again just not in the same WAY as it was in the game.

This is, of course, assuming they don't Do It Wrong. :/

You know, while I agree that a lot of the appeal of PW is in the interactivity, I'm going to be cautiously optimistic about an anime adaptation too. Holy shit.

(Worst-case scenario: it's the story of how Phoenix lost all his nakama in tragic and/or bullshit ways before Apollo Justice. Best- or second-best-case scenario: It's a whole fuckmothering retcon of Apollo Justice where Apollo is the star of his own story and the plot is good and Phoenix never got disbarred. Though animated Turnabout Goodbyes = kjsdhgkhs yes.)

Swear to fucking God if it's the former I'll--

I just care far more about the original trilogy characters than the Apollo Justice characters, interesting as they are. It would feel... hollow. A shame, almost, if it was Apollo Justice and Phoenix and Miles and Maya and Gumshoe and everybody were not in it/have a three second cameo.

I won't rule it out, but I sort of have the feeling that Capcom's doing damage control now. It hasn't been as severe here (though it seems people are starting to realize), but the Japanese fanbase HATED GS4.

Hmm, I think I'm sort of the opposite of you there. I'd love something that focuses on rewriting GS4 and gives Phoenix and Maya and Miles and everyone three second cameos. I adore the original trilogy cast, but after PW3 I'm honestly okay with the spotlight moving away from Phoenix, because I am supremely satisfied with the way the trilogy ended. I like Apollo, and I want to see his story, I just don't want it to be failsauce. My beautiful dream is that the anime will fix GS4, and then GS5 will take over from there. (And hell, fixing GS4 could involve bringing the original cast back in all their glory. Like maybe Apollo's a junior partner at Wright & Co. Law Offices. I would not argue. I would so completely not argue.)

An anime based on the original trilogy would be glorious and I would love it, make no mistake... but I really, really want them to beat GS4 with the retcon hammer so that shit never, ever happens to Phoenix.

Apollo working at Wright & Co = epic epic win. Especially if he's always going to Phoenix for advice and Edgeworth is always there, erm, hanging out.

AJ had great main characters, but as far as plotline goes (ESPECIALLY 4-3), it might as well be written by Uwe Boll.

OMG, did you have to mention Uwe Boll in a Gyakuten Saiban thread?

I cry.

Manly tears.
