He was one of the most awesome characters in FMA... I have so much Roy/Hughes yaoi doujin in my key drive, that's why I say that.

I really kinda hated how little living!time Hughes got in the second series though. It made him feel so... minor. Did not like one bit. Is it like that in the manga as well? The first series seemed to make him a much more important... influential character.

Yeah, Hughes is kind of minor in the manga at first but he gets mentioned some and shows up in flashbacks through out the series. But he is definitely a bigger character in the first anime series.

The entire reboot is really rushed. Seriously. They did it right the first time; why not just pick up after Greed? The manga and anime split off there anyway.

There were plenty of minor nuances that I'm sure they wanted cleared up. Like uh. The existence or lack thereof of various characters and such. =V
