Wait, why are you watching Princess Tutu when you could be watching Sherlock instead?

I didn't actually like Princess Tutu when I watched it. I managed to sit through the whole series, and in the end just kind of went, "meh." I think in the realm of "magical girl formula breaking out of the fairytale" Utena a million times a better job.

I don't think making the Utena comparison is fair (though a friend did sell it to me at the beginning of the series as "ballet magical girl with a trippy Utena influence"), so I may be unduly harshing upon a decent series. In the end, I think it's a show I probably could have lived without. It does what it set out to do decently, but not in a spectacular or memorable way.
