[livejournal.com profile] omegadonut spent the night last night. He left about twenty minutes before I did this morning. I advised that he use the 38th St Park-and-Ride, since it is accessible to the route one takes from my house to Tempe. The Tempe Park-and-Rides are usually packed by 10AM, so you have a better chance of finding parking the further out from the university you go.

I pulled up as one of the eastbound trains was leaving the station. Fine--I calculated by the time I parked and walked over to the station, I would have a five minute wait for the next train. It was only 99*F at that point, so I did not mind the wait.

I saw a maroon car approaching from the west out of the corner of my eye. I looked up from my DS. It looked like Mike's car. It got closer; it was Mike's car. Coming from the dead opposite direction of my house/Dunkin Donuts/whatever he has business doing in that part of town. I assumed he got turned around given my directions to the Park and Ride. Understandable. I don't know if he saw me. We were only separated by the tracks.

I leaned out further. The eastbound train was barely visible. I gave it two minutes, max, before it pulled up to the station. Mike was just turning in to the parking lot. I tried to call him to tell him he could park in the lot across the street from the sign to save time; his phone went straight to voicemail. Whatever. I tried.

The train pulled up as he was running across the street. The doors opened; I was standing at the back of the first car. Cool air rushed out. I thought I would try to be a decent mate and wait for him to get on the rail with me. I hoped the driver could see me waiting, notice I was waiting for somebody buying a ticket, and wait for both of us to board so he wouldn't get stuck on the platform.

I waited by the door as he frantically bought his pass from the machine. The doors started closing. I shoved my arm into the door at the last minute, and it clamped down--hard. I yanked my arm back out. Mike was closer to the anterior end of the train, so I assume the driver saw him and re-opened the door closest to him. I ran over to that door. It closed in my face. I banged on it. The train pulled away.

Fuck my life.

TL;DR The Light Rail doors do not re-open if you shove an arm between them while they are closing, and I spent thirty minutes waiting at a station.

Hahaha. Balls indeed. If you stick your arm in the CTA trains out here in Chi town the doors open again, but the conductor will sass-ily ask you to stop. But that's about it. I can't wait to see you and Mike soon!
