I just had a dream that my family took a vacation to Iraq.

We're American.

Somehow we left alive without incident. And Cillian Murphy was working at the airport. And for some reason Brent-George ([livejournal.com profile] eagle8635) was in our tour group. Baghdad was a small, dusty tourist town of the Arab variety, not a war zone. A lady at a gas station tried to sell me chocolates. Everybody spoke perfect, barely-accented English; the only sign that they were not native speakers was in the pace of the speech.

I remember thinking in the dream that the armed forces must love the beautiful scenery, so this wasn't that much of an alternate reality.

This kind of makes me sad. Not that Iraq was anything peaceful before but now...now isn't right. I get so tired of hearing of all the deaths - of the Iraqis and of the soldiers. And yesterday was a Muslim holiday as well. All I can think is that I wish they had more moments where they could enjoy life, to feel safe and at peace.

I'll stop rambling @.@;

It was quite sad. In the dream I was aware of the fact that things were far too peaceful to be real. I was expecting to be attacked because Americans are none too popular in the Middle East, and that us treating the place like a tourist attraction after the nature of our involvement seemed so very sick and elitist.

The Middle East, in general, makes me sad. The landscape and culture there are fascinating, but the violence, bloodshed and everything else just really...ugh.

It really does make even me think a lot even if it was all a dream.

I love Sleepy Hollow.

I had a traveling dream last night... I was in Paris, and we were trying to go to Avignon, but ended up in Hawaii, which was 10 minutes away.

Yay for nonsensical dreams!

We should have taken a side-trip to Hawaii.

and then brenteorge said to the fighting americans and iraqis:
"Why must we fight? In the end, we are all just dust in the wind! We are all just tiny particles floating in this giant cup of lemonade we call life!"
And then everybody stopped fighting and was happy.

Funny I should read about the mention of Iraq when I just finished having a conversation with my Daddy about it. He talked to a man whom he works with who just returned from one of the most dangerous parts of Iraq. Turns out he was actually nearly killed. But quietly, he told my Daddy that if he were in the Iraqis' situation, he'd be doing as they are. He alluded to the idea that we are the ones invading.

Alluded? We are. But hearing it from the front lines... It's a strong message when it comes from people who joined the army out of a genuine desire to do good--you know, liberate fellow human beings from tyranny--and who soon discover that it's not quite what they had desired to do.
