I think I'm going to study for the JLPT. My Japanese is getting too rusty; I need some study plan here that isn't "Read manga, ????, profit?"

You're right, reading manga alone isn't gonna help.
Gotta watch anime and play video games, too.

I don't know man, if I'm being entirely honest doujinshi helped me study for the JLPT a lot.

Depends what level you're taking, though.

Which level has the ああああああ~ ああああ~ ああああ~ いくよ~いたい~ section? Because I will ace that shit.

I'm currently translating the Cardcaptor Sakura Clow Card supplement. It's helping, but I really need to sit down and memorize the Kanji.

I'm not sure which level I'm going to take, or when. I'll just do my best and see where I am when the time comes.

That's the section where you date the teacher for bribes.

Seriously, though, I found regular old books, doujinshi, animu, magazines, tv shows, what have all helpful up to 2-kyuu. Up to 2-kyuu the vocabulary and grammar are all fairly common use and they would all come up in daily conversation.

It's 1-kyuu that breaks out the academic Japanese o___________o I did not read any of those words in my porn. And there are sentence that the last time they were used was shortly before someone flew a plane into an aircraft carrier.

So yeah before that though read what interests you. You'll learn faster that way and it'll all be helpful.

Blah, the 1-kyuu. I looked at that practice exam and panicked. At the time I thought 1-kyuu was easiest, and 5-kyuu hardest. So I was relieved when I looked at the 5-kyuu practice and it was quantum levels easier. I'm going to shoot for 3-kyuu or 2-kyuu.

Hahahahah that must've been amazing. Well let's just try the easiest on--- OH GOD WALL OF KANJI.

I don't personally know anyone who hasn't lived in Japan for a while who's passed 2-kyuu or above, but that was under the oldfangled setup. Under this new setup I don't know what's what anymore.

Find someone who's a native speaker who's willing to help you and then talk/write like crazy?

Those are two entirely different camps of people, and I know of nobody who fits into both categories.
