Good night, sweet Prince.

I'm sure by now most Utena fans have heard that Kawakami Tomoko has passed away of ovarian cancer, at the age of 40. I just found out now. I'm in shock. I can't express how much that show--and her role, especially, thanks in no small part to her acting--effected me. Since I'm on limited time with a slow internet connection ($5AU/30 min, bullshit), I won't go into a rant, but: Kawakami-sama, you profoundly effected at least one person on this miserable rock of a planet, and helped shape her into who she is today. Rest in peace. I hope it's a lovely castle in the sky.

Yeah, I'm in Australia, picking up my sister from her study abroad trip. The family is taking a side-trip to Hamilton Island, where I currently am. It's lovely, but there isn't much going on. Everything closes at 8PM. Hopefully I'll have more regular interwebs when I get back to the mainland. I've been doing a lot of reading by the beach. Weather is perfect.

Yeah, I heard about that. It sounds like he's just making preparations for his imminent dementia, and, honestly, I would probably do the same thing. I can't say I understand, because I don't, as I haven't been there, but I can't blame him. Hopefully the disease keeps at bay for a long time yet.

Yeah. My sister was studying in Gold Coast. I'm back in Brisbane, which is amazing. The weather is balmy and I'm walking distance from a ton of amazing places.

Kawakami, I guess this means now she really IS KawaKAMI.
When I watched AIR, and saw her performance as Misuzu, I almost bawled :(

I'm sure the castle will be lovely. I'm picturing something Romanesque.

Have fun in Australia. It's technically snowing now, isn't it, being the southern hemisphere.

I totally forgot you were going to Australia! I was getting worried because I hadn't seen you online in forever, and I was even starting to think that maybe those fires in Arizona had fucked up some of your shit. Glad to hear that you're alright and at least enjoying some nice scenery. Have fun!

You know I've been off the grid when I had to look up the fires to which you were referring. It looks like those fires are further south of where I live, close to the border. I live in Phoenix, in a heavily urban area, so if the fires reached my house, it would be rather destructive.

Yeah, that's more or less what I figured, but you know how it is- whenever you hear about something bad happening in the general vicinity of someone you know who lives far away, some part of your brain always wonders.

And hooray for getting off the grid! It can be so liberating sometimes.
