Just finished through episode 38 of the NANA anime.

* Fuck Takumi. I don't care how nice he is being right now, he has already shown his true colors, and they are not pretty for any sort of long-term arrangement. He's a narcissistic, possessive bastard. Even Hachiko has too much of an independent spirit for him. I know he has his good aspects, like all people in the show (which is nice, as it provides good depth), but he still pisses me off. He acts like an immature fifteen-year-old boy when the chips are down.

* Oh, and if I were in Oosaki Nana's place, and I had heard he had told my boyfriend to "discipline his woman", I'd split his urethra like a log with a guitar pick.

* I like Shin a lot, but he needs to get over his adolescent nihilistic "I'm nothing but a man whore" and "there's no such thing as love" blah-blah bullshit and realize that a gorgeous older woman is desperate to get into his pants. For the long term.

* Is anybody else irked by the humble housewife / hubby dynamic Hachiko has going with Takumi? I know Hachi wants to be a housewife, and more power to her, but something in the way Takumi patronizes her pisses me off. SHE NEEDS TO GET BACK WITH NOBU. :/ She can still be as housewifey with him as she wishes, but damn, at least he'd respect her on a far deeper level than Takumi does.

* GETTING KNOCKED UP IS NOT A REASON TO GET MARRIED IF YOU DON'T LOVE THE GUY. This isn't Puritan New England anymore. Even though practical ramifications may make it seem as though the guy you don't love can provide a better life for your kid (millionaire versus starving artist; I can see that one), money can only be an opiate for so long. I understand Hachi's concerns for her baby, and in a way, she made a very selfless move. However, Hachi will be miserable in the long run, and the child will pick up on this as it grows. Nobu may not be as financially well off at the moment, but ultimately, he and Hachi could provide a house full of far more genuine love, and ultimately, that is what will make all the difference. Money is a practical necessity, but it really only can go so far.

* I don't know why Nana is so convinced her singing career will end if people find out about her liaisons with Ren (which it seems is the case now). I understand that she probably wanted to make her break purely on her own terms, and not as the arm-candy of her arch rival, but ultimately it's not the end of the world. BLAST can get past the paparazzi bullshit, and Nana will shine in her own right as an artist.

* On that note, I love Ren. If I met him in real life, I'd totally give him a high five.

* Same goes for Nana. Despite her faults, I have a ton of respect for that woman.

* Hell, just sign me up for a punk rock threesome. I'd be all over both of them.

* Naoki kicks ass.

* More cute Ren / Nana plz? It almost feels like the passion is leaving their relationship, and God damn are they a better couple than Hachi and Takumi or Reira and Shin. That's just a fact right there.

* The new opening song LUCY kicks ass; I've been listening to it at work while I clean the incubators in the back room every week.

*Recorded Butterflies is also a gorgeous song, but like all of Trapnest's songs, it's horribly melancholy. The lyrics are just so amazingly vivid. You know exactly what Reira is feeling if you have ever loved and lost, or even if you have ever loved and things just changed.

As often as I don't watch any television that isn't [adult swim], I caught an old indie film on Flix called Smithereens this evening. I rather liked it, depressing as it was. Granted, the main character had what was coming to her. I felt sorry for her anyway. Give it a look if you want indie punk-rock misfit nihilistic film fare.

Oh, and I'm done writing papers for the rest of this school year, and hopefully the next. Two more finals, and I'm free.

Ziggy is such a spoiled brat. He's been asleep on my stomach for over an hour now.

I've just started reading the NANA manga - finished book 5 today, and I love it.

I've got number 6 on pre-order! Eager to read it.
In the two prologues, I found Nana K. very hard to like, because she was such a whiner and so oblivious to other people's thoughts and feelings, and had to settle for loving the art style and liking Junko and Kyosuke (even though a real Japanese guy with Kyosuke's hair would look weird beyond imagining). However, as the story proper kicked off I warmed up to her quite a lot and I really dig Nana O. I love the outfits Yazawa draws (especially the Black Stones' punk outfits and Nana K.'s Sabrina 70s fashion period) and the way she deploys Photoshop-filtered photos of real locations for her backdrops. The story is really well plotted and jolly engaging!

You're not reading the manga, right? I think I'm back a few episodes, but the manga is ahead. Not confirming, denying or anything but just curious. XD

But I want that new opening now. :o

I don't have it on this computer. I'm sure nana-nana.net has it.
