Mom took my car out to a meeting this morning. She came into my room and said that one of her cohorts, who happens to be a very active lesbian, enlightened her as to the meaning of several of the stickers.
If you've seen my car you know it's currently covered in Weeaboo crap and only one remotely serious sticker: the HRC equals sign. I've never received comments that are not to the effect of "Holy shit, that's an awesome Zelda sticker" or "Yay Nightmare!" something like that.
My response: "Oh, really?" expecting her friend to be a fangirl.
Mom: "Yeah. Female S/m, male/male bondage..."
Me: ...*sits up straighter* WHAT.
Maybe some of you guys can shed some light on this. I've already gone web hunting for the symbols mentioned, and I have yet to find anything that even REMOTELY resembles the symbols on my car.
I think my mom now thinks I'm driving around town propositioning hot lesbian bondage. Maybe I have been and I've had no idea. She did point out that if Dad is ever driving my car he might get some *interesting* propositions, which is a hysterical idea (if you know my dad you know why) but more than likely would result in catastrophic fallout once he got back home.It might still be worth it; holy shit that would be funny.
Guys I need /b/ackup. Pull out that obscure arcane trivia you know.

![]() | 1. The Triforce as seen in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Apparently she had no idea what this once meant, so I guess I'm in the clear. |
![]() | 2. The Organization XIII symbol from Kingdom Hearts II. Note that the version on my car is red. Apparently this is the one that means Female S/m, but in searching that term and any analogous terms (you will get some INTERESTING stuff, yes), I have yet to find any symbol even remotely resembling this one. Maybe Larxene and Naminé are getting up to some interesting stuff. Or the Organization XIII boys are lesbians in disguise, which would explain a lot, like why most of them are always PMSing all over the place. |
![]() | 3. Jack Skellington. I think this one is in the clear. |
![]() | 4. I believe in Harvey Dent. I think this one is self-explanatory. |
![]() | 5. The Flamel symbol from from Fullmetal Alchemist. This is the crest of the Elric brothers--it appears everywhere in the show, notably on the back of Edward's jacket and as a tattoo on the collarbone of Ed's and Al's mentor, Izumi Curtis. Nicholas Flamel, as most of our generation is aware because of Harry Potter, was an influential alchemist IRL attributed with extensive work on the Philosopher's Stone, and, well, if you've seen anything of FMA this appropriate association requires no further explanation. This might be the m/m bondage logo (?), which may just confirm fangirls' suspicions about exactly how close of brothers Ed and Al are. |
![]() | 6. The Human Rights Campaign logo. This one may mean male/male bondage (?), but given that Mom's informant is an active lesbian I would be stunned if she does not know the more mainstream meaning behind this very common PAC symbol. |

Date: 2009-03-14 08:13 pm (UTC)I can't say I've ever heard of there being a special lesbians-only one, though there's a hanky code for BDSM.

Date: 2009-03-14 08:15 pm (UTC)It reminds me of the guy on my teacher training course who, seeing some Sailor Moon accessory I had on my bag, told me very seriously and in an 'I hate to burst your bubble, but I feel I owe it to you' tone, that in the original Japanese version Sailor Moon was 'basically a porn.'
And when I told him that no, it wasn't, it was always a series aimed at little girls, and explained how people got that impression because of different Japanese cultural values about nudity, and that the series proper shouldn't be confused with pornographic fan-works, and that I KNEW because I had SEEN nearly all of the original material,
HE STILL DIDN'T QUITE BELIEVE ME.
You know what I think it is? People would *rather* believe that there is some secret bad/sexual meaning behind something innocent, like that craze for multi-coloured rubber bracelets, than accept that there isn't and there was nothing to worry about. People can be so strange.
