Like everybody else on my friends' list, I just finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Wow.

OH YEAH.
WHO WAS RIGHT?
FUCK YEAH WHO WAS RIGHT?
THE POTIONS MASTER REIGNS SUPREME, BITCHEZ.
The poor man. No wonder he was so pissed his entire life. He probably died a greasy-haired virgin with a box of tissues, lotion, and some old yearbooks in his desk.
He's still awesome, though.

And Fred. WHY THE FUCK DID FRED HAVE TO GO? The twins kicked ten varieties of ass, and just the thought of George on his own makes me ache for him.

And I liked Tonks and Lupin, too. Meh. Actually, I loved Tonks almost as much as I love Luna. Almost. Luna is ADORABLE.

And for all the Harry/Hermione fans out there: YOU JUST GOT CANON-RAPED.

On another note, maybe it was just me, but it seemed as though there were several elements of the story that Scholastic forced be all-ages appropriate. Ron kept saying "effing" instead of just dropping the f-bomb, which I am sure the real Ron uncensored would have been dropping a lot, and even without any remotely parental figures anywhere, boys and girls still slept in segregated rooms--even couples voluntarily split up. I'm not even saying they have to have sex, but usually you get that just falling asleep together talking sort of thing, holding hands and blushing and all that adorable nonsense. They're freaking seventeen. Granted, the NC-17 Potterfic out there more than compensates, but hey...

Yeah, [livejournal.com profile] lostsailors and I are convinced that there was a lot of awkward, muffled, don't-wake-Harry-up sex going on in that tent.

YES WE ARE VINDICATED. At my release party they hosted a debate about Snape, and while I think it was the "Snape betrays" side that actually convinced the mediator, WELL, LOOK WHO GOT IT RIGHT IN THE END? BOOYA.

And Fred. WHY THE FUCK DID FRED HAVE TO GO? The twins kicked ten varieties of ass, and just the thought of George on his own makes me ache for him.

You have reached into my head and pulled out my exact feelings about Fred's death.

But it's okay. Because obviously, since Fred and George are SO close and have functioned as a unit for pretty much their entire lives, obviously Fred is going to come back as a ghost. He can still help George run the shop and come up with ideas and together they can work out some tricks that work on ghosts and also that's why none of the kids in the epilogue were named after him, because he wouldn't be having with that.

It makes everything better.

(fuck, sorry, had to fix my HTML.)

I'm a total H/Hr shipper, and to be honest, the romance in these books was so terrible that I'm GLAD we were "canon-raped". Poor Albus Serverus. Poor, poor Albus Serverus.

Hrmph... H/Hr shippers. My girlfriend's birthday was HP themed. She cast herself as Hermione... guess who I was cast as?

Having gotten annoyed by the series at the end of the first book, I suppose that I'm not the best one to speak.

But just latching onto the movie that my lover took me to see, I agree with you about Luna. In the movie (OotP) she was an awesome character, at least.

I wonder what the other HP buffs I have surrounded myself with think of this new book.

I've heard the entire spectrum of opinions on it.

I just finished the book last night. (I waited to borrow it from a friend.) I was in the "good Snape" camp as well. yay chemists! Finally getting Snape's story through the pensieve was definitely one of the best parts in the whole series.

I still can't get over how stupid they (Ron, Harry, and Hermoine) were at times. It's pretty amazing that they avoided death so much.

About the age-appropriate thing, I was surprised that Mrs. Weasley said "BITCH" and that it was so big on the page... I mean every other time, it was just mentioned that someone was cursing and there were plenty of opportunities where people would normally be cursing madly. And the whole "dead but not really dead," was kind of weak, and the epilogue where everyone was so happy was way too cheesy.

Albus Severus... oh dear.

Tonks was probably my favorite character.

It's kind of funny; my mom predicted the ending without reading the series. She said that Harry and "the bad guy" would both die, but there would be some way that Harry came back. She also thought "the red-haired kid" (Ron) was going to die and was disappointed that he didn't.

Ahahahaha potions masters FTW.

Well, admittedly I prefer a happy ending to a sad one like anybody else, but when it's happy and yet fake seeming, there's no magic in it.

well said. I like happy endings too, but not when they're overdone.
